Abstract

ABSTRACT Saputri, N. A. 2026. Water Level Monitoring Prototype Using the HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor. Thesis. Informatics Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas PGRI Madiun. advisor (I) Slamet Riyanto, S.T., M.M. advisor (II) Yessi Yunitasari, S.Kom., M.Cs. Rapidly advancing technology has brought greater convenience to modern life, notably through the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT facilitates automation, allowing systems to operate and be controlled via the internet. It also enables object monitoring, thereby enhancing efficiency in daily activities. However, in some regions of Indonesia, monitoring is still conducted manually—requiring direct or close-range observation. This presents a problem, as continuous monitoring is impossible, often resulting in missed opportunities for timely preventive action. This research aims to develop a water level monitoring prototype using the HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor. The development of this prototype is intended as a first step toward creating a monitoring system for dam waterways in remote areas of Indonesia. The study involves developing an IoT-based system featuring a water level monitoring website that generates status reports. This research is expected to serve as a foundation for developing real-time water level monitoring tools for flood prevention in Indonesian regions that currently rely on manual monitoring—a practice that often leads to losses due to delays in early warning or mitigation efforts. Furthermore, the research aims to assist in monitoring water levels at dams or waterways in residential areas prone to flooding caused by increased discharge during rainfall or other factors.
