Abstract
This research is motivated by the low listening skills of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Sukowetan, Kabupaten Trenggalek, as shown by difficulties in grasping information, understanding story plots, and lack of focus when listening to abstract folktales. The objective is to describe the implementation of folktale listening learning through surrounding environment series picture media and to analyze its impact on students' listening skills. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. The subjects were fourth-grade students and teachers. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, then analyzed interactively using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that surrounding environment series picture media help students concretize stories, facilitating sequential understanding of events, characters, settings, and messages. Students showed improved focus, active questioning, and retelling ability with greater confidence. Teachers were assisted in delivering materials because the media is easy to use and closely related to students' lives. Supporting factors included student enthusiasm and school support, while limited picture variations were addressed through creative modifications. In conclusion, the implementation of folktale listening learning using surrounding environment series picture media has a positive impact and can serve as an innovative alternative in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level.
