Abstract

Wind-solar hybrid power systems offer a renewable energy solution by combining two energy sources to ensure a continuous power supply; however, power fluctuations—driven by weather conditions and solar radiation intensity—create an imbalance between energy supply and load demand. This imbalance affects energy efficiency and accelerates battery degradation due to over-discharge. This study aims to design and construct an adaptive load management system to enhance energy efficiency and extend battery lifespan in small-scale wind-solar hybrid systems, employing a Research and Development (R&D) methodology with a quantitative experimental approach. The prototype integrates an ESP32 DevKit v1 microcontroller, voltage and ACS712 current sensors, a 2-channel relay module, a 2.4-inch TFT LCD, and the Blynk application for remote monitoring. The system monitors voltage, current, power, and battery State of Charge (SoC) in real-time and automatically disconnects the load when the SoC drops to a minimum threshold of 40% to prevent deep discharge. Expert validation yielded an overall feasibility score of 93.60% (categorized as "highly feasible"), while functional testing demonstrated a 100% success rate. Energy efficiency testing showed a 38.99% improvement, with average energy consumption decreasing from 94.94 Wh to 57.92 Wh and the Depth of Discharge (DoD) dropping from 94.19% to 57.46%. Battery lifespan testing indicated an increase in estimated cycles from 319 to 522—a gain of 204 cycles (63.64%)—resulting from a reduction in the Equivalent Full Cycle (EFC) value from 0.942 to 0.575. It is concluded that the adaptive load management system significantly improves energy efficiency and extends battery lifespan through real-time monitoring and automatic load disconnection based on battery SoC levels.
