Abstract
Pollution levels and UV exposure can cause damage and dryness to facial skin. Therefore, it is necessary to use a moisturizer cream to protect facial skin. A safe moisturizer cream is one that contains natural ingredients such as mangosteen peel and butterfly pea flowers. This study aims to determine the active compound content, preparation quality, and antibacterial activity of a moisturizer cream made from mangosteen peel and butterfly pea flowers. The study on a moisturizer cream made from mangosteen peel and butterfly pea flowers was conducted using an labolatory experimental method, which aims to study and analyze phytochemical testing, preparation evaluation, statistical testing, and antibacterial testing. Phytochemical tests of mangosteen peel and butterfly pea flower extracts produced flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and saponins. After phytochemical testing, the extract can be an active ingredient for a moisturizer cream with excipients including stearic acid, TEA, methyl paraben, and glycerin, with the best evaluation test results obtained in formula 3 with an extract content of 3 %. The inhibition zone results of S.aureus bacteria are formula I of 6.93 mm, formula II 9.10 mm and formula III 11.8 mm while E.coli bacteria are formula I 2.2 mm, formula II 3.0 mm and formula III is 3.8 mm. The conclusion of this study is phytochemical testing, preparation evaluation testing, statistical testing and antibacterial testing carried out on mangosteen peel and butterfly pea flowers have the potential to be a safer and more efficient moisturizer cream, because they contain flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins and saponins which are able to protect facial skin from bacterial damage.
