ABSTRACK Eriyana, Lena. 2026. Improving Poetry Reading Ability Using Educational Game Media for Fifth-Grade Students of SD Negeri Ngunut, Kawedanan District, Magetan Regency. Thesis. Keywords: poetry reading, educational game media, classroom action research, elementary school This research was motivated by the low poetry reading ability of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Ngunut. Based on pre-cycle data, out of 35 students, only 9 students (26%) achieved the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM=75), with a class average of only 70. Students read with monotonous tones, stiff expressions, and lacked confidence. This study aimed to (1) describe the effective procedure for implementing educational game media, (2) analyze the improvement in students' poetry reading ability, and (3) identify changes in students' attitudes and learning motivation. This research used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method with the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting stages. The research subjects were 35 fifth-grade students of SD Negeri Ngunut. Data collection techniques included observation, poetry reading performance tests, interviews, and documentation. The instruments used were poetry reading assessment rubrics (aspects of pronunciation, intonation, expression, and appreciation) and student activity observation sheets. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed that: (1) The effective procedure for implementing educational game media included careful planning, gradual implementation using games such as Expression Cards, Poetry Bait Relay, Guess the Expression, and Poetry Wheel, active mentoring, instant feedback, and continuous reflection and improvement. (2) Students' poetry reading ability improved significantly: the class average increased from 70 (pre-cycle) to 75 (Cycle I) and 85 (Cycle II); classical mastery increased from 26% (pre-cycle) to 69% (Cycle I) and 91% (Cycle II), exceeding the performance indicator target (≥85%). The most significant improvements occurred in expression (from score 2.4 to 3.4) and appreciation (from 2.0 to 3.2). (3) Students' attitudes and learning motivation changed positively: courage to perform increased from 60% to 85%, enthusiasm from 71% to 91%, along with the emergence of student cooperation and hidden talents. The conclusion of this study is that educational game media effectively improves the poetry reading ability of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Ngunut. The implications of this study strengthen game-based learning theory and provide practical guidance for teachers in implementing enjoyable poetry reading instruction. Suggestions are offered for teachers to continue developing educational game media, for schools to facilitate the provision of such media, and for future researchers to develop digital versions and expand research subjects.
