Abstract

Traditional markets do not merely function as places for economic transactions but also serve as social spaces that encourage the development of civic economic values within society. The existence of Pundensari Traditional Market in Gunungsari Village provides a platform for community participation in economic activities while strengthening the values of togetherness, cooperation, and social responsibility. This study aims to examine the role of Pundensari Traditional Market in developing the civic economy of the people of Gunungsari Village, Madiun Regency. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The research informants consisted of market managers, traders, and buyer of Pundensari Traditional Market. Data analysis was conducted using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The results of the study indicate that Pundensari Traditional Market plays a significant role in developing the civic economy through increasing community participation in economic activities, strengthening cooperation among community members, and fostering social responsibility in the management and implementation of market activities. The market also has a positive impact on the local economy by creating business opportunities, increasing income, and expanding social networks within the community. Furthermore, the values of mutual cooperation, social concern, and togetherness that emerge through market activities represent the practical implementation of civic economy principles in Gunungsari Village. Therefore, Pundensari Traditional Market functions not only as a center of economic activities but also as a medium for learning and strengthening civic values in community life.
