Abstract

SF₆ (sulfur hexafluoride) gas is widely used as an insulating medium and arc-quenching agent in high-voltage circuit breakers (PMT). The quality of SF₆ gas must be monitored periodically because degradation can reduce its insulation performance and increase the risk of equipment failure. This study aims to determine the SF₆ gas quality test results in PMT 150 kV at Bay Ponorogo 1 and Bay Ponorogo 2 in Gardu Induk New Pacitan using an SF₆ Multi Analyzer, to compare the SF6 gas quality test results between bay Ponorogo 1 and Ponorogo 2, and to evaluate their compliance with IEC 60376 and CIGRE 234 standards. The parameters analyzed were gas purity, dew point, moisture content, and decomposition products (SO2). The test results show that gas purity ranges from 99.3% to 99.9%, dew point ranges from −53.1°C to −55.0°C, moisture content ranges from 20 to 26 ppmv, SO₂ content is 0 ppmv, and gas pressure ranges from 6.61 to 6.81 bar. The comparison results indicated that bay Ponorogo 2 had relatively higher moisture content and dew point than nay Ponorogo 1 suggesting that bay Ponorogo 2 has a higher operating workload. The evaluation based on IEC 60376 and CIGRE 234 indicates that all test parameters meet the specified limit values. Therefore, the SF₆ gas used in the PMT 150 kV at Bay Ponorogo 1 and Bay Ponorogo 2 is considered suitable for use as an insulating and arc-quenching medium and does not require purification or replacement. The results of this study are expected to support periodic maintenance and evaluation of SF₆ gas quality in high-voltage equipment at substations.
