Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve the ability of sixth-grade students at Kepohkidul II Elementary School, Kedungadem District, Bojonegoro Regency to write narratives using the project-based learning (PjBL) model and animated video-based digital media. This study was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. The planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages were included in each cycle. The number of research subjects was twenty sixth-grade students. Data analysis was quantitative and qualitative. Data collection methods included documentation, narrative writing skills tests, observations of student and teacher activities, and student response questionnaires. The results showed that from cycle I to cycle II, students' creativity and narrative writing skills improved. They still had problems with idea development, storyline, and spelling and punctuation usage, as well as suboptimal classical learning completion. However, after improvements were made in cycle II, all students achieved 100% classical completion. Furthermore, students' responses to the learning process were also better. According to the questionnaire results, students' responses in cycle II were in the very good category with a percentage of 91.5%. Learning narrative writing using the PjBL model and animated video-based digital storytelling media has been shown to increase student engagement, motivation, and creativity in narrative writing. Therefore, learning narrative writing with the help of digital storytelling media can be used effectively in Indonesian language learning in elementary schools.
