Abstract

ABSTRACT Setiawan, Wawan. 2025. Improving Learning Achievement and Listening Skills Through Storytelling Methods Using Audio Video Media of Folk Tales for Fourth Grade Students of Balongcabe Elementary School, Kedungadem District, Bojonegoro Regency. Thesis. Indonesian Master of Language and Literature Education Study Program, Post Graduate Program Universitas PGRI Madiun. Pembimbing (I) Prof. Dr. Marheny Lukitasari, M.Pd.; (II) Dr. Erlik Widiyani Styati, M.Pd. Keywords: storytelling method, audio-video media, folklore, listening skills, learning achievement. This study aimed to improve students’ learning achievement and listening skills through the implementation of storytelling methods supported by folklore audio-video media in fourth-grade students of SDN Balongcabe Kedungadem. The background of this study was the low level of students’ listening skills, which was indicated by lack of attention, difficulty in understanding story content, and low achievement in Indonesian language learning. This research employed a classroom action research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 18 fourth-grade students of SDN Balongcabe Kedungadem. Data were collected through listening skill tests, observation sheets of teacher and student activities, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results showed that the application of storytelling methods using folklore audio-video media significantly improved students’ learning achievement and listening skills. In the pre-cycle stage, the average score of students’ listening skills was below the Minimum Mastery Criteria. After the implementation of actions in Cycle I, there was an improvement in the average score and learning mastery percentage, although classical mastery had not yet been achieved. In Cycle II, students’ listening skills improved more optimally, as indicated by higher average scores and the achievement of classical mastery. In addition, students showed positive improvements in listening activities, understanding story content, and retelling stories coherently.
