Abstract

This study aimed to improve students’ learning achievement and critical reading skills through the implementation of the Jigsaw method supported by visual text media in Grade VI students of SDN Babad III, Kedungadem District, Bojonegoro Regency. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 18 sixth-grade students. Data were collected through learning achievement and critical reading tests, observation sheets, and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results of the study indicated a gradual improvement in students’ learning achievement and critical reading skills from the pre-cycle to Cycle II. The average learning achievement score increased from 68.22 in the pre-cycle to 74.06 in Cycle I and further improved to 81.94 in Cycle II. Classical learning mastery increased from 33.33% in the pre-cycle to 61.11% in Cycle I and reached 83.33% in Cycle II. In addition, students’ critical reading skills improved, as evidenced by their ability to comprehend texts, identify main ideas, interpret implicit meanings, and draw logical conclusions. Students’ learning activities and attitudes also showed positive changes, including increased participation, cooperation, and confidence during the learning process.
