ABSTRACT Wira Andriani. 2025. The Use of Mini Theater Technique as a Media to Strengthen Speaking Skills in Indonesian Language Learning in Grade V of SD Negeri 1 Gamping, Suruh District, Trenggalek Regency. Thesis. Master of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program. PGRI Postgraduate School, University of Madiun (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr. Supri Wahyudi Utomo, M.Pd., Supervisor II: Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, SS, M.Pd. Keywords: mini theater technique, speaking skills, Indonesian language learning, elementary school. This study aims to describe the use of mini theater technique as a medium to strengthen students’ speaking skills in Indonesian language learning at grade V of SD Negeri 1 Gamping, Suruh District, Trenggalek Regency. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The research subjects were the teacher and fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 1 Gamping. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the implementation of the mini theater technique was carried out through well-structured stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation. The mini theater technique involved students actively in role-playing activities, dialogue practice, and simple performances. The use of the mini theater technique had a positive impact on strengthening students’ speaking skills, as indicated by increased confidence and courage in speaking in front of the class, improved fluency, better pronunciation and intonation, as well as more appropriate use of expressions and body language. In addition, the mini theater technique also contributed to the development of students’ social skills, such as cooperation and communication within groups. Several obstacles were encountered in the implementation of the mini theater technique, including students’ low self-confidence at the initial stage, limited instructional time, differences in students’ speaking abilities, and classroom management challenges. These obstacles were addressed through continuous motivation, guidance, effective time management, and the establishment of clear classroom rules. Therefore, it can be concluded that the mini theater technique is an effective learning medium for strengthening students’ speaking skills in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level.
