This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research method. The specific type of descriptive research employed is content or document analysis. This analysis focuses on non-literary texts in the Grade VI Indonesian language student book of the Merdeka curriculum based on SMOG and PIRLS criteria. Data collection was carried out in the sequence of planning, commencing data collection, collecting basic data, concluding data collection, and completing. Data analysis started from data collection, data display, and verification. The instrument used to collect data was the researcher themselves. To maintain data validity, thoroughness or meticulousness was applied. The research results show that: (1) only 3 out of 15 non-literary texts in the Grade VI Indonesian language student book of the Merdeka curriculum are suitable for Grade VI students' age, or 12 years old, based on the SMOG criteria, with a percentage of 20%, which means it is highly unsuitable, (2) there are 4 out of 15 non-literary texts in the Grade VI Indonesian language student book of the Merdeka curriculum that are suitable according to PIRLS. The percentage of question levels is 39% for low, 29% for intermediate, 16% for high, and 16% for advanced. This means that the distribution of question levels in the 15 non-literary texts in the Grade VI Indonesian language student book of the Merdeka curriculum does not comply with the ideal distribution of the PIRLS criteria.
