Abstract
ABSTRACT Damsya Aula Mabriza. 2025. Improving Poetry Writing Skills on the Theme of the Environment Through a Contextual Approach for Fifth Grade Students of SD Negeri 4 Klodan, Ngetos District, Nganjuk Regency. Theses. Keywords: writing, poetry, contextual approach, and the natural environment This study aims to describe and explain (1) the application of a contextual approach in learning to write poetry on the theme of the environment for fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 4 Klodan, Ngetos District, Nganjuk Regency and (2) the activities of fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 4 Klodan, Ngetos District, Nganjuk Regency in participating in learning to write poetry on the theme of the environment through a contextual approach. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are (1) the average value of students is 61.97 with a sufficient category. The average value after the action cycle I is 74.08 with a sufficient category. The average value of students after the action cycle II is 81.80 with a good category, and (2) student activity towards the surrounding natural media as one way of learning to write poetry with a natural theme is very positive. Based on the results of interviews in cycle I, on average they responded positively to the learning that had been delivered by the teacher. In addition, based on the results of observations in Cycle I, 75% of the total number of students, they paid close attention to the teacher's explanation during the learning process, even in Cycle II the number of students who liked it was 90%, they really liked learning poetry with a natural theme. Likewise with student activity, in cycle I, students who were inactive were 25%, but in Cycle II, students who were inactive decreased to 10% or around 4 students.
