Abstract

Manual feed measurement often leads to inaccurate rationing and inefficiency among medium-scale poultry farmers. This study aims to develop Smarter Chicken Feeding, a prototype of an IoT-based feed measuring system that retrieves ration data from Google Sheets and weighs feed components incrementally. The system integrates a Load Cell sensor, HX711 module, ESP32 DevKit V1 microcontroller, 128×64 OLED display, and Google Sheets as a cloud-based data logger without additional applications. The test results show that the average reading time per feed ingredient was approximately 20 seconds, with a measurement error ranging from 1 to 4 grams for loads above 500 grams, equivalent to a deviation of less than 0.5%. Stability tests indicated that the load cell maintained consistent readings on a fixed 1 kg weight, with fluctuations within ±2 grams and an average deviation of 0.08%, which remains within acceptable sensor tolerance. The automatic weighing feature for five feed ingredients functioned as expected, with the buzzer sounding when the target weight was reached and the Enter button confirming progression to the next ingredient. Data synchronization from Google Sheets to the OLED display averaged 10–15 seconds, ensuring smooth real-time access to feed data. The Li-ion 18650 battery sustained prototype operation for up to 180 minutes under full working conditions, and recharging via the TP4056 module took approximately 2 hours, with auto cut-off protection functioning properly. Overall, the Smarter Chicken Feeding prototype has proven to be a precise, stable, and efficient solution for automated feed mixing, suitable for implementation in medium-scale poultry farms such as MT Farm Magetan.
