Abstract
Writing is an important language skill that serves as a means of indirect communication. It is a productive and expressive activity that depends on information obtained through listening and reading. In writing instruction, success is not determined by the sophistication of the media used, but by its function in supporting the learning process. One effective method for teaching narrative writing in elementary school is the field trip method. This approach aligns with the characteristics of fourth-grade students, who are still in a playful stage and need to be introduced to their surrounding environment. Through visits, students are encouraged to write reports as a form of expressing real-life experiences in written form. This study aims to determine and describe the improvement in narrative writing skills of fourth-grade students at SDN Serag, Pulung District, Ponorogo Regency through the field trip method. The main problem addressed in this research is whether the field trip method can improve students’ narrative writing abilities. This research is a classroom action research (CAR) aimed at improving students’ reading comprehension and collaboration in Indonesian language and literature learning. The implementation process includes four stages across three cycles: (1) planning, (2) action, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics through mean scores and percentages, integrating and interpreting all information gathered from each cycle. The average narrative writing scores increased from 63.05 in the first cycle, to 72.00 in the second cycle, and 79.40 in the third cycle. These results show a consistent improvement in each cycle. In conclusion, the increase in average scores across cycles indicates a significant improvement in learning mastery. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that the field-trip method effectively improves narrative writing skills among fourth-grade students at SDN Serag, Pulung District, Ponorogo Regency.
