Abstract

Prasetiyo, Doni. 2025. The Role of Social Environment in Improving Short Story Writing Skills of Fifth Grade Students of SDN WUNGU 04, Wungu District, Madiun Regency. Theses. Indonesian Master of Language and Literature Education Study Program, Post Graduate Program, Universitas PGRI Madiun, Advisor I) Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, S.S., M.Pd.; (II) Dr. Muhammad Binur Huda, M.Pd. Keywords: Social Environment, Writing Skills, Short Stories. This study aims to describe the role of the social environment in improving short story writing skills in fifth grade students of SDN Wungu 04, Wungu District, Madiun Regency. This study was motivated by the low writing skills of students, especially in writing short stories, which are thought to be influenced by the lack of stimulus and interaction from the students' social environment. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and document analysis. The subjects of this study were six students, namely Alfian Faturrahman, Amira Fatmawati, Azra Ayu Nur Rahma, Luqman Hakim, Muhammad Kafif Ali Sofyan, and Rinda Salsabila. The focus of this study is how the social environment influences students' writing skills and the social factors that contribute to its improvement. The results of the study indicate that the social environment has a significant influence in improving students' short story writing skills. Interaction with parents, teacher support, communication with peers, and access to reading media have been shown to enrich students' ideas and writing structures. A communicative, supportive, and literacy-rich environment is an important factor in shaping students' writing skills creatively and structured. This study recommends the need for collaboration between schools and families in creating a social environment that supports student literacy. The social environment not only acts as a background for students' lives, but also as a source of ideas, motivation, and reinforcement in the process of learning to write.
