Keywords: Effective sentences, free compositions, writing skills, elementary school students. This study aims to describe (1) the implementation of the use of effective sentences in the practice of writing free compositions for third-grade students, and (2) the impact of the use of effective sentences on the quality of student compositions at SDN Mojorayung 03, Wungu District, Madiun Regency. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, documentation, and analysis of student writing results. The subjects of the study consisted of 10 third-grade students who were selected purposively. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of effective sentences is carried out through the following stages: providing materials, concrete examples, sentence improvement exercises, and direct practice of writing compositions. The impact of this learning shows an increase in students' ability to compose sentences that are concise, clear, and coherent. There is an increase in the quality of compositions in terms of sentence structure, clarity of meaning, and coherence between paragraphs. In conclusion, the use of effective sentences makes a positive contribution to learning to write free compositions at the elementary school level. This method can be an effective strategy in improving students' literacy and logical thinking skills.
