Keywords: PjBL, STEMS, metacognitive and critical thinking. This research started from the low metacognitive skills and critical thinking skills of seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Dolopo. Students are less able to apply metacognitive skills and critical thinking skills. Learning does not provide an interesting way for students to think. Problems arise how to improve students' metacognitive skills. Likewise, students' critical thinking skills must be improved so that their thinking patterns are more enhanced. Therefore, STEMS based PjBL is used to make learning more interesting. In this classroom action research, the aim is to apply social studies learning with a STEMS approach based on Project Based Learning to metacognitive skills in seventh grade students and to apply social studies learning with a STEMS approach based on Project Based Learning to critical thinking skills in seventh grade students. This type of research is a classroom action research using a qualitative approach, the subjects of this research are 32 seventh grade students, and the objects of this research are students' metacognitive skills and critical thinking towards social studies learning. Data collection techniques used are observation and tests. The data sources used in this research are learning activities carried out in seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Dolopo. The analysis technique begins with calculating the initial test score (pre-test), then analyzing student activity through observation, and then analyzing student test results. The research results obtained after the implementation of project-based learning with STEMS can improve metacognitive skills. Furthermore, the research results obtained after the implementation of project-based learning with STEMS can improve critical thinking skills in students at SMPN 1 Dolopo.
