Abstract

The Tenggerese people in Ngadisari Village, Sukapura District, Probolinggo Regency, possess local wisdom in utilizing medicinal plants as traditional therapies, particularly to treat inflammation (anti-inflammatory) and pain (analgesic). This knowledge has been passed down from generation to generation, but has not been widely studied scientifically. This study aims to identify the medicinal plant species used by the Tenggerese people and evaluate their pharmacological effectiveness based on their bioactive compound content. The method used is a qualitative and quantitative approach with a descriptive ethnographic design. Data were collected through interviews with 62 key informants, documentation, and literature studies. Data analysis included quantitative ethnobotanical methods, namely Species Use Value (SUV), Family Use Value (FUV), Fidelity Level (FL), and Informant Consensus Factor (ICF). The results showed that there are 55 plant species from 29 families used as anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs. The plant with the highest SUV value is Acorus calamus (dringu) at 0.95. The family with the highest FUV was Acoraceae, at 0.95. The plant with the highest FL value was Andrographis paniculata (sambiloto), used to treat swelling, with a value of 96.7%. The disease category with the highest ICF value was eye pain, at 0.92. The literature review showed that most of these plants contain active compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and terpenoids, which have scientifically proven anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities.
