Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of a play-based training method in improving balance in early childhood at TK Dharma Wanita Kanigoro 2 Madiun. The background of this research is the importance of balance as a part of gross motor development, which supports children’s daily physical activities. Based on observations, many children were found to have difficulty maintaining balance when performing straight-line walking movements, which is caused by a lack of motor stimulation from their surrounding environment. Therefore, a method that suits the characteristics of young children is needed—one that is fun and involves motor activities, namely a play-based approach.This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design in the form of a one-group pretest-posttest. The research subjects consisted of 21 children aged 4 to 6 years. The intervention was conducted over 12 sessions within a month, using a game-based activity in which children walked on a straight line while carrying two 100 ml water bottles in both hands. The instrument used was an observation sheet that assessed balance based on the criteria of very good, good, fair, and poor.Data analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed a significant increase in the average balance score from 2.83 in the pretest to 4.09 in the posttest. The test results showed that the T-count = 0 < T-table = 59, indicating that the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted.In conclusion, this play-based training method is effective in improving balance in early childhood. It is suitable to be used as a gross motor learning strategy in early childhood education environments. Keywords: Play-Based Training Method, Balance, Early Childhood
