Abstract

ABSTRACT Donna Khailila. 2025. *Phonological Development of Indonesian Language in Children Aged 3–4 Years at PAUD Tunas Harapan and Its Relevance to the Course of Learner Development.* Thesis. Department of Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Asri Musandi Waraulia, S.Pd., M.Pd. Dhika Puspitasari, S.Hum., M.A. This study, entitled *Phonological Development of Indonesian Language in Children Aged 3–4 Years at PAUD Tunas Harapan and Its Relevance to the Course of Learner Development,* aims to: (1) describe the phonological development of Indonesian language in children aged 3–4 years at PAUD Tunas Harapan and its relevance to the course of learner development, and (2) describe the relevance of this phonological development to the learner development course. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The study focused on one aspect of Indonesian language acquisition, namely phonological acquisition. The findings reveal that all subjects were able to pronounce all vowel phonemes: /a/, /i/, /u/, /e/, /∂/, and /o/ in every word position (initial, medial, and final). For consonant phonemes, all subjects were able to pronounce almost all consonant phonemes, including /b/, /c/, /d/, /f/, /g/, /h/, /j/, /k/, /l/, /m/, /n/, /p/, /r/, /s/, /t/, /z/, /ŋ/, and /ñ/. In addition, all subjects were also able to pronounce almost all semi-vowel phonemes, such as /w/ and /y/. The research was conducted at PAUD Tunas Harapan in Madiun Regency, with 10 subjects selected out of a total of 20 students. The subjects were: (1) Alfil, (2) Alvino, (3) Axelle, (4) Azizah, (5) Beril, (6) Callisa, (7) Ciput, (8) Gilza, (9) Hafiz, and (10) Justin. Phonological development was found to have relevance to the cognitive development of children aged 3–4 years, as the ability to pronounce and understand language sounds helps children build simple logical thinking. Through language, children express their understanding of basic concepts and instructions. Therefore, phonology can serve as a bridge to stimulate cognitive development in children through learning activities. Keywords: phonological acquisition of Indonesian language, relevance to learner development course.
