Abstract

The background of this study is based on the low social skills of slow learners, indicated by a tendency to be solitary, passive in group activities, difficulty expressing opinions, and difficulties in controlling emotions when facing conflict. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of symbolic modeling psychoeducation in improving the social skills of slow learners. This study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study were 11 slow learner students in grade VIII who had low social skills based on the results of the social skills scale measurement. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data analysis used to test the hypothesis using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Based on the comparison results, there was a very significant change in the pre-test and post-test scores, namely an increase. The results of the hypothesis test using the Wilcoxon test showed an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.003 (p < 0.05), indicating that the hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that symbolic modeling psychoeducation services are effective in improving the social skills of slow learners. The results of this study indicate that symbolic modeling psychoeducational services are effective in improving the social skills of slow learners. Based on these findings, recommendations can be made to students, teachers, principals, and researchers as a reference for addressing similar issues.
