Nabila Zahra Zhafira. 2025. The Application of the Pentigraf Technique to Improve Narrative Writing Skills of Ninth Grade Students in Class IX A at SMP Maarif Ngawi in the Academic Year 2024/2025. Undergraduate Thesis. Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, PGRI University of Madiun. Supervisors: (I) Dr. V Teguh Suharto, M.Pd, (II) Dr. Muhammad Binur Huda, M.Pd. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims, first, to find out the increase in students’ motivation to learn through the implementation of the pentigraf technique. Second, it aims to determine the improvement of students’ narrative writing skills by applying the pentigraf technique to ninth-grade students of Class IX A at SMP Maarif Ngawi in the 2024/2025 academic year. The subjects of this study were 18 students. The research was conducted in three cycles, each consisting of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages.The method used in this study was a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and assessment of students’ narrative writing outcomes.The research results regarding the increase in students' learning motivation showed that the implementation of the pentigraf technique in Cycle II led to a significant improvement in students' motivation levels. As many as 17 students (94.44%) reached the good motivation category, while only 1 student (5.56%) remained in the low motivation category. With a Minimum Mastery Criterion (KKM) for motivation set at 75%, the results in Cycle II indicate that the learning process has successfully increased students' overall motivation. Regarding students' narrative writing skills, the research results showed an increase in the average narrative writing score from 68.39 in the pre-cycle to 73.05 in Cycle I, and further increased to 84.33 in Cycle II. Students' learning mastery also experienced significant improvement. In Cycle II, out of 18 students, 17 students (94.44%) achieved the Minimum Mastery Criterion (KKM) set at 75, while only 1 student did not meet the criteria.In conclusion, the results of this study indicate that the application of the pentigraf technique is not only effective in improving narrative writing skills but also has a positive impact on increasing students’ learning motivation.
