Abstract

This study analyzes the quality of multiple-choice items in the English final exam at SMKS ST Bonaventura 2 Madiun. The research employs a descriptive quantitative method involving 20 teacher-made items completed by 22 tenth-grade students. The analysis focuses on three indicators: difficulty level, discrimination index, and distractor effectiveness. The results reveal that 40% of the items are categorized as easy, 45% as moderate, and 15% as difficult. Regarding the discrimination index, 30% of the items fail to effectively distinguish between high- and low-performing students. Additionally, several distractors are found to be ineffective, as they are rarely selected by students. These findings indicate that some items do not fully meet the standards of a high-quality test. Therefore, it is recommended to revise and improve the test items to enhance their validity and reliability in assessing students’ learning outcomes.
