Abstract

The background of this research stems from the importance of career maturity as a provision for vocational high school students in determining their career choices and directions in an increasingly competitive workplace. This study aims to determine the effect of fear of failure on career maturity, to determine the influence of peer conformity on career maturity, and to determine the influence of fear of failure and peer conformity on career maturity of eleventh-grade students at SMK Negeri 2 Jiwan in the 2024/2025 Academic Year. This quantitative study employed an ex post facto method and a correlational design. A total of 87 students were selected as a sample using simple random sampling. Three psychological scales were used in data collection: the fear of failure scale, the peer conformity scale, and the career maturity scale. Data analysis included normality tests, linearity tests, homogeneity tests, and multiple linear regression to determine the effect of the independent variables on the dependent variable. The results showed a significant influence between fear of failure and peer conformity on the career maturity of students at SMK Negeri 2 Jiwan. Hypothesis testing revealed a negative effect of fear of failure on career maturity, and a negative effect of peer conformity on career maturity. This study suggests that the higher the level of fear of failure and peer conformity, the lower the student's level of career maturity. These findings can be used by guidance and counseling teachers as an initial assessment to determine students' career maturity.
