Abstract

Pathogenic fungal attacks on bok choy (Brassica rapa L.) plants cause a decrease in plant quality. Excessive use of chemical pesticides can have negative impacts on the environment and health. This study aims to: (1) analyze the antifungal activity of red ginger leaf extract (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) against the growth of pathogenic fungi based on its inhibition zone, (2) examine the best concentration in inhibiting fungal growth, and (3) develop a research-based monograph as a teaching material for applied biology. The study used a quantitative approach with an in vitro laboratory experiment method in a one-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with variations in extract concentration (0%, 60%, 80%, and 100%). Data collection techniques were carried out through phytochemical tests and observations of fungal growth inhibition zones on SDA media. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA. The results showed that red ginger leaf extract contains active compounds tannins, alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, steroids, and terpenoids. The highest inhibitory power was recorded at 100% concentration with an average of 31.79 mm, indicating its effectiveness as a natural antifungal. The validation of the research e-monograph by material experts achieved a score of 93% and by media experts 92%, both of which are considered very feasible. Thus, red ginger leaf extract has potential as a biopesticide, and the research findings can be utilized in e-monograph-based learning in Applied Biology.
