Abstract

This research aims to analyze the forms of cohesion and coherence in the lyrics of the album Semoga Sembuh by Idgitaf and to describe their potential application in teaching Indonesian language in schools. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method. The primary data sources are the lyrics of five songs in the album: “Berlagak Bahagia”, “Sekuat Sesakit”, “Takut”, “Kasur Tidur”, and “Semoga Sembuh”. The findings show a total of 242 instances of cohesion, consisting of 104 grammatical cohesion items and 138 lexical cohesion items. The most dominant form of grammatical cohesion is reference (79 instances), while lexical cohesion is mostly represented by collocation (42 instances) and hyponymy (32 instances). In addition, a total of 77 coherence relationships were identified, with cause-effect being the most frequent type (23 instances), followed by background-conclusion and means-purpose relationships and even analogy. The analysis reveals that the song lyrics construct continuity of meaning both structurally and semantically through expressive and emotionally charged linguistic devices. These findings indicate that song lyrics can serve as contextual learning media in teaching news texts and discourse in Indonesian language education. Analyzing cohesion and coherence can help students improve their understanding of textual structure and semantic relationships, thereby enhancing literacy skills, logical thinking, and coherent writing abilities.
