Abstract
Reading is one of the essential skills in English that plays a crucial role in students’ academic success. However, many students still struggle with reading comprehension, especially when experiencing anxiety. This study examines the correlation between students’ reading anxiety and reading comprehension among tenth-grade students at MA Al-Mujaddadiyyah Kota Madiun in the 2025 academic year. Using a quantitative correlational design with 30 purposively sampled students, data were collected through a reading comprehension test and the EFLRAI reading anxiety questionnaire. Results showed a moderate negative correlation (r = -0.441, p = 0.015), indicating relationship between students’ reading anxiety and reading comprehension. Among the three types of anxiety measured Top-down (TRA), Bottom-up (BRA), and Classroom Reading Anxiety (CRA), TRA was the most dominant. The findings emphasize the impact of reading anxiety on comprehension and the importance of addressing emotional factors in English teaching.
