Abstract
Vidani Ayu Astriani. 2025 The Role of Teachers in Forming Discipline of Fifth Grade Students at SDN Gerih 2. Thesis. Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program. FKIP. PGRI University of Madiun. Advisor (1) Vivi Rulviana, M.Pd Co-Advisor (II) Raras Setyo Retno, M.Pd Keywords: Role of Teachers, and Student Discipline Education at the elementary school level places teachers in a strategic position in shaping students' character, especially in terms of discipline. Teachers are not only teachers, but also mentors, motivators, and role models that influence the learning atmosphere and the achievement of learning goals. However, student discipline problems are still a challenge, as observed at Gerih 2 Elementary School, Gerih District, Ngawi Regency, where students often show undisciplined behavior such as not doing assignments, chatting during lessons, and not wearing complete school attributes. This condition has an impact on the effectiveness of learning. Therefore, an active role of teachers is needed in instilling a disciplined attitude through habituation, role models, and character building from an early age. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method to examine the role of teachers in shaping the discipline of fifth grade students at SDN Gerih 2. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, with primary data sources from teachers and students, and secondary data from literature. The main instrument is the researcher himself, assisted by observation and interview guidelines. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles and Huberman interactive model: data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity is maintained through triangulation and member check. The focus of the study includes the role of teachers, indicators of student discipline, and internal and external inhibiting factors. The results of this study are that teachers have a central role in shaping the discipline of fifth grade students at SDN Gerih 2 through role models, positive habits, and educational approaches. Teachers not only teach, but also become character mentors who create an orderly and conducive learning environment. Although there are obstacles from internal factors of students and external environments such as lack of family support, teachers are able to overcome them with a persuasive approach, cooperation with parents and schools, and ongoing character building programs.
