Abstract
Sari, Heri Eka Reptina. 2026. The Implementation of Literacy Habituation to Improve Reading Skills of Second-Grade Students at SD Negeri Pupus 3, Lembeyan District, Magetan Regency, Academic Year 2025/2026. Master's Thesis, Master of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (I) Dr. Elva Nuraina, M.Si (II) Dr. Endang Sri Maruti, M.Pd Keywords: literacy habituation, reading culture, reading skills, elementary school This study aimed to describe the implementation of literacy habituation in improving the reading culture of second-grade students at SD Negeri Pupus 3, Lembeyan District, Magetan Regency, in the 2025/2026 academic year. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The research participants consisted of the principal, the second-grade teacher, and second-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that literacy habituation was implemented consistently through a fifteen-minute reading activity before lessons, classroom reading corners, the school library, and graded reading books. Teachers actively guided, motivated, and assisted students throughout the activities. The implementation of literacy habituation had a positive impact on students' reading culture, as reflected in improved reading fluency, greater confidence in reading aloud, increased interest in using literacy facilities, and better comprehension of simple texts. The success of the program was supported by teachers' commitment, the principal's support, parental involvement, and adequate literacy facilities. Therefore, consistent literacy habituation effectively fostered a reading culture while improving the reading skills of second-grade students.
