Abstract
Boxing is a contact sport with an exceptionally high risk of injury, ranging from minor harm to athlete fatalities. This study aims to analyze the forms of protection and safety afforded to athletes in the organization of boxing matches based on prevailing laws and regulations, as well as to examine the legal liability of match organizers in cases of injury, accident, or death resulting from negligence in the conduct of such matches. This research employs a normative legal method using a statute approach, a conceptual approach, and a case approach. The legal materials used consist of primary legal materials (statutory regulations), secondary legal materials (legal literature), and tertiary legal materials, analyzed through juridical-normative techniques involving inventory, interpretation, and deductive conclusion-drawing.The findings indicate that athlete protection and safety constitute a constitutional right guaranteed by the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and reinforced by Law Number 11 of 2022 on Sports. Boxing match organizers may be held administratively liable for violations of licensing requirements and technical standards; held civilly liable under Article 1365 of the Indonesian Civil Code if proven to have committed an unlawful act causing harm to an athlete; and held criminally liable under Articles 359 and 360 of the Indonesian Penal Code if negligence results in serious injury or death. Nevertheless, existing regulations remain general in nature and have yet to specifically address safety standards in boxing, including mandatory insurance, head injury management procedures, and athlete compensation mechanisms.
