Abstract

This research is motivated by the low expository writing skills of sixth-grade elementary students, characterized by difficulties in organizing ideas systematically, developing logical arguments, and using effective vocabulary and sentences. Writing instruction has so far been oriented toward conventional written assignments without utilizing digital platforms that can facilitate structured and continuous writing processes. Meanwhile, the challenges of distance and hybrid learning require teachers to integrate technology into teaching. Google Classroom serves as a platform that enables assignment management, submission of work, and provision of online feedback. The objectives of this study are to describe the implementation of Google Classroom-based Indonesian language learning in developing expository writing skills and to analyze its impact on the quality of students’ writing. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The subjects were teachers and sixth-grade students of SD Negeri 2 Sidomulyo. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, analysis of student writing products, and documentation. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques with the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings reveal that the implementation of Google Classroom facilitates teachers in delivering materials, providing sample expository texts, and managing the revision and evaluation process systematically. Students show significant improvement in expository writing skills, particularly in organizing ideas, logical reasoning, and appropriate word choice. The comment and private comment features in Google Classroom enable teachers to provide effective individualized guidance, allowing students to improve their writing gradually. Furthermore, students feel more motivated as their work is well-documented and accessible anytime. In conclusion, Google Classroom-based Indonesian language learning is proven effective in developing expository writing skills among sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Sidomulyo, despite facing technical constraints related to device access and internet connectivity that need to be anticipated.
