Abstract
Adolescence is a critical period for the development of emotional autonomy, defined as an individual's ability to manage emotions and make decisions without excessive emotional dependence on others. Difficulties in achieving emotional autonomy tend to be more prominent among adolescent girls from fatherless families, a condition marked by the father's physical or psychological disengagement from parenting. Beyond family conditions, socialization skills are also assumed to contribute to adolescents' emotional autonomy. This study aims to examine the effect of fatherlessness and socialization skills on emotional autonomy among adolescent girls in senior high school, both partially and simultaneously. A quantitative correlational design was employed. The population consisted of tenth- and eleventh-grade female students at SMA Negeri 1 Karas Magetan, with a sample of 32 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a closed-ended questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression, t-test, and F-test with SPSS. The results show that, simultaneously, fatherlessness and socialization skills had no significant effect on emotional autonomy (F = 0.045; significance = 0.956), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.003, indicating that both variables account for only 0.3% of the variance in emotional autonomy, while 99.7% was influenced by other factors such as social support, resilience, and maternal parenting style. These findings differ from several previous studies and suggest that emotional autonomy among adolescent girls is multidetermined, not solely shaped by paternal presence or social skills alone, but also by other attachment figures and social support systems surrounding the adolescent.
