Abstract

This study aimed to describe the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by the Sangkar Bumi teaching aid and to analyze its effectiveness in improving students' learning outcomes. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, consisting of two cycles, each including planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The participants were 32 fifth-grade students of SDN Pare 3 in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through classroom observations, achievement tests, interviews, documentation, and field notes. Data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques involving data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing, and percentage analysis of learning mastery. The findings revealed that implementing the Problem Based Learning model assisted by the Sangkar Bumi teaching aid significantly improved both the learning process and students' learning outcomes. Student learning activities increased from 62.28% in Cycle I to 87.61% in Cycle II. Teacher instructional implementation improved from 71.43% to 92.86%. Students' academic achievement also showed substantial improvement. The class average score increased from 60.31 in the pre-cycle to 72.97 in Cycle I and 83.84 in Cycle II. Classical learning mastery improved from 15.63% in the pre-cycle to 50.00% in Cycle I and reached 100.00% in Cycle II. The study concludes that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model assisted by the Sangkar Bumi teaching aid effectively improves student learning activities, instructional quality, and learning outcomes in the topic of Indonesia's geographical location for fifth-grade students at SDN Pare 3, Kediri Regency.
