Abstract
Numeracy is an essential skill that enables students to understand, use, and apply mathematical concepts in everyday life. However, numeracy learning in elementary schools still requires innovative instructional media that can enhance student engagement and understanding. This study aimed to determine the effect of using a Digital Card Game (DCG) as a pedagogical instrument in numeracy learning among fifth-grade elementary school students. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test control group design. The sample consisted of 63 students divided into an experimental class and a control class. Data were collected through numeracy tests on fraction addition administered before and after the treatment. The results showed that the mean pre-test score of the experimental class was 81.62, while the control class achieved a mean score of 80.00, with a significance value of 0.39 (> 0.05), indicating that both groups had equivalent initial abilities. After the intervention, the mean post-test score of the experimental class increased to 87.21, whereas the control class reached 84.14. The Independent Samples t-test yielded a significance value of 0.043 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the two groups. These findings demonstrate that the use of DCG has a positive effect on improving students’ numeracy skills. Through interactive and enjoyable game-based activities, DCG helps students better understand fraction addition concepts, increases learning motivation, and encourages active participation in the learning process. Therefore, DCG can be considered an effective pedagogical instrument for supporting numeracy learning in elementary schools.
