Abstract

Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning in elementary schools continues to encounter various challenges, particularly the limited use of innovative instructional media. As a result, the learning process tends to be teacher-centered and has not effectively promoted students' active participation. This condition contributes to low learning motivation and difficulties in understanding abstract concepts, especially the topic of photosynthesis. One potential solution to this issue is the development of interactive learning media that align with active learning strategies. This study aimed to develop a Flip the Flap Book learning media based on the Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create (RADEC) model, determine its feasibility, and examine its implementation in elementary school IPAS learning. This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the Borg and Gall development model. The research procedures consisted of needs analysis, planning, product development, expert validation, product revision, individual trials, small-group trials, large-group trials, and final product refinement. The research was conducted at SDN 01 Manisrejo, Madiun City, involving 39 fourth- grade students as the research participants. Data were collected through observations, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation, while both quantitative and qualitative descriptive techniques were used for data analysis. The findings indicated that the developed learning media met the criteria of being highly feasible for classroom implementation. The validation results showed scores of 94.12% from the material expert, 82.73% from the media expert, and 86% from the language expert. Furthermore, the individual trial achieved a score of 95.71%, the small-group trial 96.41%, and the large-group trial 97.22%. These results demonstrate that the RADEC-based Flip the Flap Book effectively supports a more engaging and interactive learning process while improving students' understanding of IPAS concepts. Therefore, the developed media can be considered valid, practical, and appropriate for use as an alternative instructional medium in elementary schools. Keywords: Flip the Flap Book, RADEC, Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS), learning media, Research and Development.
