Abstract
The background of this study is the increasing mobility of students studying abroad, including Dayak students. This study aims to describe the efforts of Dayak students in maintaining cultural identity in a multicultural environment in the city of Madiun as well as supporting and inhibiting factors. This study uses the theory of cultural identity, the concept of maintaining culture, and cultural values of the Dayak tribe as a foundation in analyzing the efforts of Dayak students in maintaining their cultural identity in a multicultural environment. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method on 16 Dayak students at the Catholic University of Widya Mandala Madiun. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using data analysis techniques of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that students ' efforts in maintaining their cultural identity through the use of regional languages, involvement in the Dayak student community, the application of cultural values, and cultural activities. Supporting factors include family, community, peer support, and the campus environment, while inhibiting factors include differences in language, culture, and adaptation demands. This study shows that community and individual awareness play an important role in the preservation of Dayak cultural identity in the overseas environment.
