Abstract

This study aims to describe and explain (1) the application of the PAIKEM approach assisted by poster media can improve descriptive writing skills in grade V students of SDN Kedewan III, Kedewan District, Bojonegoro Regency and (2) the response of grade V students of SDN Kedewan III, Kedewan District, Bojonegoro Regency to descriptive writing learning using the PAIKEM approach assisted by poster media. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are (1) the descriptive writing skills of grade V students of SDN Kedewan III, Kedewan District, Bojonegoro Regency increased by 25.9% from the pre-cycle to cycle II after implementing descriptive writing learning with the PAIKEM approach through poster media. The average value in the pre-cycle was 6III.65 which is included in the sufficient category. Then the average value in cycle I was 69.45 which is included in the sufficient category. There was an increase in the results of descriptive writing skills by 5.80. Meanwhile, the average value in cycle II was 80.14 which is included in the good category, and (2) The response of fifth grade students of SDN Kedewan III, Kedewan District, Bojonegoro Regency after participating in descriptive writing learning with the PAIKEM approach through poster media experienced positive changes. These changes in student behavior can be proven by non-test data. The non-test data include observations, student diaries, teacher diaries, and interviews. Based on the results of non-test data in cycle I, negative student behavior was still apparent during the learning process. In cycle II, students experienced changes in a more positive direction.
