Keywords: reading, starters, media, and puzzle cards This study aims to describe (1) the use of puzzle card media can improve the reading skills of class I students of SDN 1 Ngasem, Jatikalen District, Nganjuk Regency and (2) the learning outcomes of class I students of SDN 1 Ngasem, Jatikalen District, Nganjuk Regency in learning to read beginning using puzzle card media. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are (1) the use of puzzle card media can improve the reading skills of class I students of SDN 1 Ngasem, Jatikalen District, Nganjuk Regency. This is evidenced by the students' activities when using puzzle media during learning to be good and very good, not only getting a good response from students but from the class teacher and parents of students responding well to using puzzle card media during learning in class, and (2) the learning outcomes of class I students of SDN 1 Ngasem, Jatikalen District, Nganjuk Regency in learning to read beginning using puzzle card media have progressed. This is proven in cycle I, there were 10 out of 18 children who achieved KKM with an average overall score (67.22) with a percentage of 56%. Then it increased in cycle II, there were 15 out of 18 students who achieved KKM with an average score (80.55) with a percentage of 83%.
