Abstract
ABSTRACT Hadi Purnomo. 2025. School Literacy Movement Using the GLDM Method (Five-Minute Literacy Movement) at SMP Negeri 3 Satu Atap Ngebel. Thesis. Master of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, Graduate School of Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisor (I) Dr. Panji Kuncoro Hadi, S.S., M.Pd.; (II) Dr. Agung Nasrulloh Saputro, M.Pd. Keywords: School Literacy Movement (GLS), GLDM, micro-literacy, one-roof school, cognitive habituation. This study aims to describe and explain (1) the implementation process of the Five-Minute Literacy Movement (GLDM) method as an adaptive strategy to increase reading interest among 7th, 8th, and 9th-grade students at SMPN 3 Satu Atap Ngebel, Ponorogo Regency; (2) the impact of applying the GLDM method on reducing psychological barriers and cognitive boredom (attention decay) in a school environment with limited facilities; and (3) the supporting and inhibiting factors arising during collaboration with teachers in carrying out the micro-literacy ritual. This research is a descriptive qualitative study with a phenomenological orientation. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with collaborator teachers and students, and documentation studies of literacy journal portfolios during the period from October to December 2025. The data analysis technique used the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana combined with phenomenological procedures. The results of this study are (1) the application of the GLDM method proved effective in building reading routines without cognitively burdening students, where the short 5-minute duration was able to keep students in the "peak attention" phase completely. This is evidenced by field findings that the transition from physical to cognitive activities proceeded more smoothly as a brain warm-up, students showed independent initiative to take books when the bell rang without repeated instructions, and precise time discipline was formed compared to the 15-minute duration which was often characterized by noise in the final minutes; (2) there was a significant transformation in literacy behavior among 7th, 8th, and 9th-grade students. This is evidenced by the role of the teacher as a literacy role model being a determinant factor in student participation, the inter-class book rotation strategy successfully overcoming boredom with limited collections, and an improvement in the quality of literacy journal entries from merely copying titles to the ability to write reflective summaries; and (3) the main supporting factor was teacher modeling and creative "Reading Corner" management, while the inhibiting factor of limited book variety was overcome through an inter-class collection rotation system.
