Yayuk Marbianti. 2025. The Use of Storytelling Techniques to Develop Ideas into Sentences in Fifth Grade Students of SD Negeri 1 Ngadisuko, Durenan District, Trenggalek Regency. Thesis. Master of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program. PGRI Postgraduate School, University of Madiun (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr. Supri Wahyudi Utomo, M.Pd., Supervisor II: Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, SS, M.Pd. Keywords: storytelling technique, writing, ideas, sentences, elementary school. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of storytelling techniques in developing ideas into sentences, identify factors influencing the effectiveness of storytelling techniques, and analyze students’ and teachers’ perceptions of the application of storytelling techniques in writing instruction for fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Ngadisuko, Durenan District, Trenggalek Regency. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach supported by quantitative data. The research subjects were fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 1 Ngadisuko. Data were collected through writing tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that storytelling techniques were effective in helping students develop ideas into sentences. This effectiveness was indicated by improvements in students’ ability to generate ideas, organize sentences coherently, and express ideas clearly. Factors influencing the effectiveness of storytelling techniques included students’ interest in stories, teachers’ storytelling skills, the use of supporting media, differences in students’ writing abilities, and limited instructional time. Students and teachers showed positive perceptions of the storytelling technique, as it made writing instruction more enjoyable and helped students express ideas in written form. Based on these findings, storytelling techniques can be used as an alternative method in writing instruction to develop ideas into sentences for elementary school students.
