Abstract
menulis siswa. ABSTRACT Budi Setyo Nugroho. 2025. The Effect of Using Series of Images and Animated Videos on the Writing Ability of Fifth Grade Students of SD Negeri 4 Cakul, Dongko District, Trenggalek Regency. Thesis. Master of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program. Graduate School of Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr. Supri Wahyudi Utomo, M.Pd., Supervisor II: Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, SS, M.Pd. Keywords: picture series media, animated video media, descriptive writing, elementary school. This study aims to examine the effect of using picture series media and animated video media on the descriptive text writing skills of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 4 Cakul, Dongko District, Trenggalek Regency. In addition, this study seeks to identify factors influencing the effectiveness of both media and to explore students’ perceptions of learning descriptive writing using picture series and animated video media. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The research subjects were fifth-grade students divided into two groups: a group taught using picture series media and a group taught using animated video media. Data were collected through descriptive writing tests, observation sheets, and student perception questionnaires. The data were analyzed descriptively and comparatively to determine differences in students’ writing abilities. The results indicate that there is a difference in descriptive writing skills between students taught using picture series media and those taught using animated video media. Both types of media had a positive effect on improving students’ descriptive writing skills. However, animated video media showed a more significant effect than picture series media. Animated videos improved the quality of content, text organization, vocabulary use, and students’ learning motivation. Media attractiveness, ease of understanding the material, and suitability to elementary school students’ characteristics were identified as key factors influencing learning effectiveness. Students also showed more positive perceptions toward the use of animated video media. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that animated video media are more effective for teaching descriptive writing to elementary school students. Therefore, teachers are encouraged to utilize animated video media as an innovative learning tool to enhance students’ writing skills.
