Abstract
The low interest in learning of students and the conditions of students and teachers affect the learning outcomes of sociology subjects. This study discusses the Contextual Teaching and Learning approach (CTL) to improve interest and learning outcomes of sociology with the theme of applying basic concepts of Sociology to understand various social phenomena in society for students of class X-6 of SMA Negeri 4 Madiun in the 2025/2026. This study uses Classroom Action Research (CAR). Data analysis techniques use tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. Based on the results of the study, the average interest in learning of students at the end of learning in Cycle I (first) was 69. While in Cycle II (second) the average interest in learning of students was 81.66, this shows an increase in student interest in learning. In addition, based on a comparative analysis of Sociology Learning Outcomes Data, a very significant increase in student academic achievement was seen. In Cycle I, only 6 students (17%) achieved the completion criteria with a class average of 69, while most students (29 students or 83%) still needed remedial. However, after the implementation of the CTL approach in Cycle II, a remarkable transformation occurred where all students (35 students or 100%) succeeded in achieving learning completion with a class average that jumped to 81.66. Therefore, the CTL approach was successful in increasing the interest and learning outcomes of sociology of class X-6 students of SMA Negeri 4 Madiun in the 2025/2026.
