HARI PURWONO. 2025. Improving Descriptive Writing Skills Using the STAD Method Assisted by Picture Media for Fifth Grade Students of SDN 2 Sidokare, Rejoso District, Nganjuk Regency. Theses. Keywords: writing, description, STAD, and image media This study aims to describe (1) the application of the STAD method assisted by image media can improve the descriptive writing skills of fifth-grade students of SDN 2 Sidokare, Rejoso District, Nganjuk Regency and (2) the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students of SDN 2 Sidokare, Rejoso District, Nganjuk Regency in learning to write descriptive essays using the STAD method assisted by image media. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are: (1) the process of improving the descriptive writing skills of fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Sidokare, Rejoso District, Nganjuk Regency through the STAD method assisted by image media in learning to write descriptive essays, namely by going through STAD steps such as class presentations, namely the delivery of material by the teacher, the formation of 6 heterogeneous groups consisting of male and female students from the smart, less smart, and average ability levels; giving individual quizzes in the form of descriptive essay writing tests, calculating scores by assessing the results of descriptive essays by the teacher, and giving awards in the form of praise and reinforcement, and (2) student learning outcomes show that the descriptive essay writing skills of fifth-grade students of SDN 2 Sidokare, Rejoso District, Nganjuk Regency, through the STAD method assisted by image media have increased. This is indicated by the average value of students' descriptive essay writing which increased from the pre-cycle, cycle I, and cycle II. The average value of descriptive essay writing in the pre-cycle was 64.71; in cycle I it was 67.97; an increase of 3.26. In cycle II it was 74.91; an increase from cycle I of 6.94.
