Abstract

Writing and reading literacy skills are fundamental for 5th grade students at SD Negeri 1 Baron, who still lack vocabulary and the ability to develop core sentences in composing stories. This study was conducted to determine the application of project-based learning with more structured and interesting picture story media. This study aims to improve the narrative writing skills of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Baron through the application of the Project-Based Learning Model using picture story media. The background of this study is the low level of students' skills in developing ideas, structuring plots, and effectively expressing stories in narrative form. This study used a qualitative research approach. The research subjects were all fifth-grade students at Baron 1 Public Elementary School. Data were collected through the compilation of narrative stories in book form, interviews with teachers and students, researcher observation sheets, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the application of project-based learning with picture story media shows the success of teachers and students in writing narrative stories with picture story media and producing a work in the form of a book. In addition, project-based learning has also been proven to be effective in fostering a spirit of mutual cooperation and critical thinking in students, in line with the requirements of the Pancasila Student Profile, because students are required to actively discuss and present their learning outcomes in groups.
