D Keywords: writing, essays, experiences, and explicit instruction This research aims to describe (1) improving the ability to write essays based on experience using an explicit instruction model in class VI students at SDN 2 Godean, LoceretDistrict, Nganjuk Regency and (2) the activities of class VI students at SDN 2 Godean, LoceretDistrict, Nganjuk Regency in participating in essay writing lessons based on experience with explicit instruction models. This research is classroom action research with two research cycles. The conclusions of this research are (1) the results of tests carried out on class VI students at SDN 2 Godean, LoceretDistrict, Nganjuk Regency, which include test results in cycle I and results in cycle II. The results of cycle I, the average class score reached 64.82 in the sufficient category. In cycle II the average class score increased to 75.65 or in the good category, and (2) the activities of class VI students at SDN 2 Godean, LoceretDistrict, Nganjuk Regency were included in the positive category after learning to write essays based on experience using an explicit instruction model.
