Abstract
This study aims to obtain a clear description of (1) the formation of student character through learning to write stories;(2) the obstacles faced by teachers and students in learning to write stories in Grade III students of SD Negeri I Totokan Mlarak Ponorogo. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. The data sources used in this study are informants, and documents. Data collection techniques conducted by researchers using observation techniques (observation), interviews, and documents/archives. Data validity techniques that researchers use are Method triangulation, and source triangulation. Data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion or verification. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that writing a story is an effort to form the character of students. Because later it will make our nation's generation better recognize, understand, and live their own character and creativity. National identity is not formed from foreign cultures (as seen in the phenomenon that is happening now in our nation's children), but it should be from the culture of the environment and oneself. The children of our nation who are now very fond of foreign cultures and seem to have lost their identity become a very serious national problem, which we must overcome as wisely as possible. We know, their identity now does not seem to be built from their own culture.
