Abstract

ABSTRACT Retno Palupi, (2025) Implementation of Story-Based Learning Method on Reading Skills of Grade 3 Students SDN Mlilir 02 Dolopo District, Madiun Regency, Thesis, Indonesian Language Study Program Graduate Program, PGRI Madiun University. Keywords:story-based, reading skills This study aims to explain This study aims to explore the effectiveness of the implementation of story-based learning method in improving the reading skills of grade 3 students in SDN Mlilir 02, Dolopo District, Madiun Regency. Based on the analysis of the data that has been conducted, it can be concluded that story-based learning methods have a significant positive impact on students’ reading ability. The main findings of this study showed that students were more motivated and more active in the learning process when stories were used as the primary medium. The statistical data of the reading test results showed an increase in the mean score by 15% after the application of this method. In addition, classroom observation also showed an increase in students’ active participation by 20% compared to conventional learning methods. A relevant case example from this study is the improvement of critical reading skills, where students are able to better identify story elements such as characters, setting, and plot. This is in line with the findings of a study conducted by Snow (2002), who emphasized the importance of narrative elements in reading learning.
