Abstract

The accuracy of drug use is the key to the success of therapy, but improper drug use practices are still often found in the community, including in adolescents who do a lot of self-medication. Low knowledge of drugs and how to use them in adolescents has the potential to lead to improper use of oral medications, which can result in adverse side effects. This study uses an analytical observational study design with an Accidental Sampling approach aimed at analyzing the factors that affect the accuracy of the way oral drugs are used in adolescents in Madiun City, the theory used is Lawrence Green's theory. The number of samples used was 379 respondents who were adolescent junior high school and high school students in Madiun City. Data collection through interviews using questionnaires was used to measure bound variables (the accuracy of how oral drugs are used) and independent variables (knowledge, gender, parental occupation, access to drug use information, and the role of pharmacists). The results of the analysis of the Logistic Regression test showed that the majority of respondents (62.8%) were not appropriate in the use of oral drugs, and most (84.7%) had insufficient knowledge. Knowledge and gender variables significantly affected the accuracy of the way oral drugs were used in adolescents (p value < 0.05). The conclusion of this study is that the factors that affect the accuracy of the way oral drugs are used in adolescents in Madiun City are knowledge and gender.
