Abstract
The problem experienced by students regarding personal-social issues found by the researcher at the school is low self-esteem. This problem is not only experienced by regular students but also by students with special needs, namely slow learners. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of group counseling implementation using cognitive restructuring techniques to improve self-esteem in slow learner students at SMP Negeri 4 Magetan. Group counseling with cognitive restructuring techniques focuses on efforts to change negative thinking patterns into positive ones, improve perspectives on failure, and increase motivation through group dynamics. The researcher used a quantitative approach with a one-group pre-test post-test experimental design for this study. The population in this research was grade VII students, with a sample of 7 students. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data analysis for hypothesis testing used the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Based on data obtained from SPSS, the calculated Z value was -2.366 and the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.018. Since the value 0.018 < 0.05, it shows that the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.018 is less than 0.05 (5% significance level). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores. Based on the Wilcoxon test results, it can be concluded that group counseling services using cognitive restructuring techniques are effective in improving self-esteem among Grade VII students. The study results indicate that group counseling services with cognitive restructuring techniques are effective in enhancing the self-esteem of slow learner students at SMP Negeri 4 Magetan. Based on these findings, it is suggested that students, teachers, schools, and researchers use this study as a reference for addressing similar problems.
